Best Fall Boots 2016

Fall is one of those seasons that gets everyone so excited.  I know for myself, all I can think about is being able to wear my boots and sipping a Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks.  Yes, I know that is going to be the reason my weight scale goes into utter shock.  Oh well…I’ll look the other way…lol.  There is something to be said about fall drinks, romantic walks around the block just to look at the leaves changing colors, and burning the candle Leaves  from Bath and Body Works.  Yes?

Today in this post, I wanted to include the top selling boots & booties for fall 2016.  I thought this was a great idea because of the other day while shopping the shoe department at Nordstrom.  It was very overwhelming with all the different designers & prices – I didn’t know where to start.  Of course, I would find myself swaying towards the $400-$700 pair of boots when my budget is more on the $200 & under spectrum.  That being said, I found many great options to house my feet this season.  I’m not quite sure what type of fall weather Florida will bring this year.  If it surprises us with colder temperatures than the last year – I will be one happy woman.

*the styles & colors (they are also available in other colors)  shown above are the trend for 2016. Click on the picture for more information on colors & pricing available.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you are all having a wonderful week so far.  Happy shopping!!!

Highlighters Worth Buying

best highlighters 2016

The highlighting technique can instantly turn your skin from drab to fab in seconds.  I am no expert but I’ve had my fair share of trial & error with highlighting.  If you don’t know or understand how to do it – go grab a glass of wine, and have a YT marathon.  It is really amazing how artists or self-taught YTubers transform themselves.  If you learn a few simple steps, it will take you a long way.

I remember when I first started highlighting, I applied it all over my face.  I thought I looked so cool with the gleaming mounds of highlight. I’m sure you could have spotted me five blocks down the street.  Well, let’s just say I’ve practiced and you know what they say, “practice makes perfect”.  I can’t really say that I’ve perfected this technique yet.  I can say, I’ve learned the areas to highlight and why we accentuate those areas, to say the least.  It’s pretty impressive what a lite glow will do for your skin.  With just a small amount your complexion looks healthier and more youthful.  It really doesn’t matter your age – there is a formula for you.  I have learned that cream highlighters work best for more mature skin.  Powder highlighters work best for younger generations.  All in all, in my opinion – I think we can make either one work for us.  Yes?

As I was going through all of my makeup collection – excuse me, “highlight” collection.  I came across ten highlighters that are phenomenal and work effortlessly to blend out for a more natural look.  You’ll definitely glow without all of the glitter that can be annoying (especially in pictures). If you haven’t already gotten your hands on these babies – I can’t wait till you do.  You’ll be obsessed.

Why I choose these 1o highlighters?

 1. Easy to blend.

2. The lasting power on the skin.

3. Affordable.

4. Gives a glow without overdoing it.

5. Finely milled for a softer focus finish.

6. Availability.

7. Hypoallergenic.

8. Good for all skin types.

9. I loved the packaging.

10. No scent or fragrance in the product.

I hope this post was helpful and inspired you to be the best you can be.  Well, at least until you want to learn how to contour.  Now that will have to be another post on its own.  Happy highlighting!

Back to School Tips for Moms with Teens

Organize Your Family’s Time

This year was a big year for my family, as I have two daughters going into two new schools as 6th & 9th graders.  At first, I was a little stressed because there is some much to do and so little time.  It seemed that after our family vacay (at the beginning of July) time just flew by and school started.  Sound familiar??  One thing that helps me feel a bit more prepared and took some stress off my plate is being organized.  I struggle with being organized because I am one who tries to keep everything in my head.  This is not a good thing.  It leads to feeling overwhelmed, anxious, and you’ll always miss something in between.  This could be an important PTO/PTA meeting or an appointment with your gynecologist.  Yes.  This has really happened to me.  And…being that I have had cysts the size of a grapefruit growing on my ovaries means I have to keep up with my gyno appointments.  You?

Buy & Organize School Supplies

This school year I wanted to start making changes, moving forward living a more structured life.  One thing that helps me achieve this is making lists.  I make lists for everything – especially, things I wanted to get done by August.  This meant I had to start as soon as summer vacay started because my to-do list was long.  I made all necessary doctor appointments, this included physicals, eye exams, orthodontics for Jasmine, etc.  Then, we did all of the school clothes & supply shopping early July just right before our family vacay.  Believe it or not, this was such a stress reliever for me.  I didn’t have to think about the school scenario once and I could enjoy my pina colada at the beach.  “Oh, Key Largo how I miss you.”

The Cozi App helped me stay organized a lot too.

If you cannot locate or if your school does not have a supply list ready for you (as they are on their own time) – here are some BASIC supply lists below.  You can always add to it later, and in most cases, the teachers don’t ask for most of the items on the list.  Every year, I always have a box of supplies that go without mention.  Sometimes just buying the basics is more than enough.  Another thing to keep in mind, teachers have their own list they hand out on the first day of class.  Why end up with supplies you don’t need?

Set Goals & Expectations at the Dinner Table

I made a trip to the school and gathered all paperwork with important dates & tryout information.  I immediately inputted all the information into my calendar on my phone.  I added alerts (1 day before), and I am good to go at least until the second quarter of school.  Another thing that is helpful, I emailed all of the teachers and requested a list of what the girls will be needing for each class.  By the first day, Jasmine & Erica were all set and ready to learn.  There were no supplies to carry around on the first day, and no paperwork to do on the first night of school.  I was ahead of the game by filling out “first-day” documents and turned them in at orientation.  For the first time in my life as a parent, I was able to be stress-free.  I made a delicious dinner and we were able to sit around the table discussing our day.  There was laughter, no phones, and peace.  Where in prior years chaos played such a huge role in my life.  I couldn’t enjoy my children or listen 100% to what they would tell me.  I can honestly say it is worth being organized and doing the footwork to create a happier home life.

Here is an easy & delicious dinner recipe here!

Top Teen Fashion Brands 2016

In case, you are a busy parent and have no clue where to start when it comes to school fashion.  Here are some of the top stores that teens love browsing through.  Most of these stores offer sales all year long.  Sometimes it helps to walk in and go straight to a sales associate.  As the sales associates always know all about what’s going on in regards to promo codes, future sales, etc…  Happy Shopping!

5 Tips to Destress Quick

I wanted to share my top 5 tips to destress when I’ve had enough on any given day.  They are easy – you probably have everything you need in your home.  Here we go…

Tip 1: Sea Salt Soak.  Throw in some bath salts, add some aromatherapy, and just soak the day off.

Tip 2: Light a candle or a few and turn the lights off in your bedroom or office.

Tip 3: Diffuse Essential Oils.  Two of my favorites is Stress Away & Joy by Young Living.

Tip 4: Yoga.  You don’t necessarily need to take a class.  Just practice four poses and immediately you’ll find yourself mellowing out.  Some of my favorites are Child’s Pose, Standing Forward Bend, Dolphin Pose, and Bridge Pose.  Try it!

Tip 5: Buy a Hammock.  Seriously the best down time EVER!  Here is one of my recommendations here.

I hope this was helpful – thanks for stopping by!!

6 Face Masks you’ll fall in love with!

IMG_3381

What it’s good for: a hydrating treatment that immediately reveals softer, firmer, healthier-looking skin.

Why I love it: My skin appears more youthful & radiant.

What it does: uses a patented Probiotic Technology to effectively remove old, dead skin cells and provide hydration to reveal younger, healthier vibrant skin.

Why I love it: does not include parabens or phthalates and helps to even out my skin tone FAST.

What it does: fights free radical skin damage with antioxidant-rich resveratrol from grapeseed.

Why I love it: minimizes fine lines around my eyes & makes my skin glow.  I usually use this one when I’m preparing for a date night or girls night out.

What it does: uses super-absorbent zinc oxide and sulfur plus calming camphor, this mask rapidly responds to problem skin in 3 ways: absorbs oil, sloughs dead cells, and gets rid of debris.

Why I love it: my zits are instantly soothed & my skin clears up quickly.  I add this to my night time routine from time to time – it only takes 10 minutes.

What it does: vitamins and botanical extracts calm, restore, and repair damaged skin caused by the environment.

Why I love it: my skin instantly feels more plump & firm.  Works amazingly well after a flight long or short.

What it does: calms, hydrates, nourishes, and soothes distressed skin – especially, those with acne issues.

Why I love it: I see a significant difference in how my skin feels – hydrated & soft.  Perfect for a night soaking in the tub.

Lately, I have been really loving my skin.  I go to great lengths and costs to keep my skin healthy.  So…I’m okay with being a little or a lot vein about it.  I’ve also been through much trial and error to find what really works.

There are so many “gimmicky” products sold on the market today it can be overwhelming.  Especially, if you are a person who doesn’t know much about skincare – I was once that person.  As with everything else in life, it is a learning process.  And…please be cautious of those colorful boxes and eye-catchy fonts.  If you’re a sucker like me – marketing is not your friend.  Just because the packaging looks pretty doesn’t necessarily mean the product works.  You know you’re guilty.

Here are a few facial masks that I feel are well worth every penny.  I am recommending them because they work.  I also like how each mask contains key ingredients that I am familiar with.  Whether you are trying to blast away a zit on your forehead or wanting a glow for your hot date.  I’ve gotcha covered!  Thanks for stopping by.

Summer Essentials

IMG_3235

IMG_3240

Summer has officially started and it’s time to think of your key items that will help you through the season.  You’ve heard it before, and I’ll say it again, “protect your skin.”  When you protect your skin (and you should start at a very early age) you decrease the signs of aging (sunspots!), and you’ll look younger longer.  If you read some of my posts a while back you’ll see some of my most highly recommended products for sun protection.  Here in this post, I have included Kiehl’s Super Fluid UV Defense Sunscreen, $38.  I have been reaching for this so much lately because it is amazing.  You can easily apply it to the skin before your makeup app and you won’t feel greasy or sticky.

Another thing we always try to achieve throughout the summer is color.  Clarins Golden Glow Booster, $30; is the perfect product for adding a natural bronzed color to the skin.  All you do is add a few drops in your night time moisturizer and by morning, you are a bronzed goddess.  The best part, you can reapply every night until you get the results you want.  Some of us really want a deep dark tan, and some of us are okay with a light sun kissed glow.

Nails are not to be forgotten, as they are the minor detail that ties everything together.  Right??  While stopping in at Ulta the other day I briefly scanned the nail polish section.  I fell in love with Essie Bikini so Teeny, $9.  It is a pale blue color that looks so pretty on anyone’s tanned or pale skin.  You can’t go wrong.  It’s also that pop of color which is what caught my eye in the drugstore.  I always look for that in a nail polish color.

My summer scent – Fleur Moneï Eau De Parfum, $24

(they have discontinued the Eau de Parfum but the hair & body mist smells exactly the same.  It may not last as long on the body, but the scent is beautiful.  Perfect for summer!)

Essential Lip Balm with SPF 25 – Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm in Lemon & Chamomile, $8

My go-to pool speaker – Bose Soundlink Colors Speaker, $119

My summer thriller read – The Cellar by Natasha Preston, $10

Check out a book preview here.

Skin Correcting & Brightening

As we age we start noticing sun spots, fine lines, and skin discoloration.  To combat these issues we must start early before more damage is done and it becomes more costly.  Everyone knows sunblock is essential too, and don’t believe those who say you don’t need sun protection when it’s cloudy outside.  That is not true.  I am no doctor or dermatologist.  But I am clever enough to know that UV rays still break through even on the cloudiest of days.  Did you know that?

If you want a good recommendation on an effective sunscreen for the face try this one.  It doesn’t leave your skin greasy nor will it clog your pores.  It is also makeup friendly.  I will admit it is a little pricey but this 4oz bottle will last forever – as you only need very little for the face.

For skin correcting and brightening, although I have tried many different skin care products, these are the ones I have seen the most results.  I have noticed my skin tighter, more even toned, and naturally glowy.  Which makes me very happy.IMG_3222

Algenist Genius White Brightening Gentle Cleanser, $48

IMG_3223

SkinCeuticals Retexturing Activator (Corrects), $65

IMG_3224

Sunday Riley Good Genes Treatment (Corrects), $105

I know what you’re thinking… These products are at a higher-end price point.  But one thing to keep in mind, you only need very little product for the face.   Therefore, these bottles should last a few months if used as instructed.  Good luck on your skin care journey.

Recently, I learned about MakeSpace, an on-demand storage service that uses technology to help you declutter your life.  They inspired me to show what spring essentials I am ready to unpack!  You can check them out here.

As a woman, I understand how it can be challenging sometimes to go from one season to another.  Especially, when you have expired on Pinterest and run out of ideas.  I always keep one thing in mind, add pieces to your wardrobe.  Don’t replace your entire wardrobe for the season – that would be very costly & exhausting.

What I bought the other day

IMG_3043

IMG_3045

IMG_3046

It all started with a simple return of the Marc Jacobs Full Coverage Foundation.  It wasn’t really what I expected.  Which came to a huge surprise to me because I am all about a full coverage foundation.  In this case, I felt it was more of a full coverage for Broadway or theater.  Usually, I am horrible about returning products, but a $54 foundation had to go back.  Luckily for me, there were several launches that day and I had options to explore.  I stopped at both Sephora and then headed over to Ulta to check out the Gwen Stefani eyeshadow palette.  I wasn’t too impressed with that either.  On another thought, have you purchased the new Manny MUA eyeshadow palette by Makeup Geek yet?  I just got mine in the mail a few days ago and it is more than I ever imagined.  The colors are highly pigmented and blend out so beautifully.  Retails for $45 – worth every penny.  You can check that out here.  Let’s check out my shopping bag.
