Organize Your Family’s Time
This year was a big year for my family, as I have two daughters going into two new schools as 6th & 9th graders. At first, I was a little stressed because there is some much to do and so little time. It seemed that after our family vacay (at the beginning of July) time just flew by and school started. Sound familiar?? One thing that helps me feel a bit more prepared and took some stress off my plate is being organized. I struggle with being organized because I am one who tries to keep everything in my head. This is not a good thing. It leads to feeling overwhelmed, anxious, and you’ll always miss something in between. This could be an important PTO/PTA meeting or an appointment with your gynecologist. Yes. This has really happened to me. And…being that I have had cysts the size of a grapefruit growing on my ovaries means I have to keep up with my gyno appointments. You?

Buy & Organize School Supplies
This school year I wanted to start making changes, moving forward living a more structured life. One thing that helps me achieve this is making lists. I make lists for everything – especially, things I wanted to get done by August. This meant I had to start as soon as summer vacay started because my to-do list was long. I made all necessary doctor appointments, this included physicals, eye exams, orthodontics for Jasmine, etc. Then, we did all of the school clothes & supply shopping early July just right before our family vacay. Believe it or not, this was such a stress reliever for me. I didn’t have to think about the school scenario once and I could enjoy my pina colada at the beach. “Oh, Key Largo how I miss you.”
The Cozi App helped me stay organized a lot too.
If you cannot locate or if your school does not have a supply list ready for you (as they are on their own time) – here are some BASIC supply lists below. You can always add to it later, and in most cases, the teachers don’t ask for most of the items on the list. Every year, I always have a box of supplies that go without mention. Sometimes just buying the basics is more than enough. Another thing to keep in mind, teachers have their own list they hand out on the first day of class. Why end up with supplies you don’t need?

Set Goals & Expectations at the Dinner Table
I made a trip to the school and gathered all paperwork with important dates & tryout information. I immediately inputted all the information into my calendar on my phone. I added alerts (1 day before), and I am good to go at least until the second quarter of school. Another thing that is helpful, I emailed all of the teachers and requested a list of what the girls will be needing for each class. By the first day, Jasmine & Erica were all set and ready to learn. There were no supplies to carry around on the first day, and no paperwork to do on the first night of school. I was ahead of the game by filling out “first-day” documents and turned them in at orientation. For the first time in my life as a parent, I was able to be stress-free. I made a delicious dinner and we were able to sit around the table discussing our day. There was laughter, no phones, and peace. Where in prior years chaos played such a huge role in my life. I couldn’t enjoy my children or listen 100% to what they would tell me. I can honestly say it is worth being organized and doing the footwork to create a happier home life.

5 Tips to Destress Quick
I wanted to share my top 5 tips to destress when I’ve had enough on any given day. They are easy – you probably have everything you need in your home. Here we go…
Tip 1: Sea Salt Soak. Throw in some bath salts, add some aromatherapy, and just soak the day off.
Tip 2: Light a candle or a few and turn the lights off in your bedroom or office.
Tip 3: Diffuse Essential Oils. Two of my favorites is Stress Away & Joy by Young Living.
Tip 4: Yoga. You don’t necessarily need to take a class. Just practice four poses and immediately you’ll find yourself mellowing out. Some of my favorites are Child’s Pose, Standing Forward Bend, Dolphin Pose, and Bridge Pose. Try it!
Tip 5: Buy a Hammock. Seriously the best down time EVER! Here is one of my recommendations here.
I hope this was helpful – thanks for stopping by!!
